ARC is not just a place for choir members, but also for the greater Calgary community - including talented artists around the city. Garrett Krause is the accompanist for one of our choirs and recently became a composer for ARC, creating original pieces for the choir to sing!
Giving these opportunities to our community is a point of pride in our organization. Giving Tuesday is on November 28th. Today we share from a staff perspective how ARC has been a positive and life-changing experience; with Something2Give to our members and community.
We hope that you read this story and learn more about our impact. On Giving Tuesday, please consider making a donation to ARC so we can continue to support our community and tell more stories through the magic of singing in harmony.
GARRETT'S STORY
I was hired as an accompanist for Up2Something in 2019. I started music lessons when I was very young that involved singing and music reading (Kodaly method), then sang in choirs when I was elementary school age. In junior high I switched to playing piano, and then I took a Bachelor of Music, in composition, at the University of Calgary.
The choir has offered many great performance opportunities for me to play. I’m also really thrilled with the recent initiative that’s allowed me to create new arrangements and original pieces for the choir!
Joining them as the choir performed their “big” year end show last year was very memorable. Having joined the choir right before COVID shut everything down this was the first opportunity to experience a big scale show with the group, after hearing many stories about past shows.
The ARC Community means connection and the special magic of making music together with others. This group is so supportive and whenever I’m involved with other musical activities in the city I know a large number of choir members will come out and support me.
Thank you to Garrett for sharing his ARC story. You can donate to ARC via the webform below. Your contribution allows us to continue singing together!
